How To Deck Out Your Contemporary Space With Abstract Canvas Wall Art
Walls in modern spaces are often painted in neutral tones like taupe or linen, and these subdued shades provide an ideal backdrop for art and decor in hot shades that pop against a neutral backdrop. Lending personality and signature style to a neutral space is as easy as repeating accent shades throughout. Hot hues like paprika, teal, and sunflower yellow can’t help but take center stage when paired with a neutral background. Here are a few suggestions on how to harness that style with canvas wall art and selected accessories.
Make a Statement: Focal Points and Related Accents
Build a space around artwork that speaks to your heart. Choose canvas wall art that adds color, dimension, and a personality to your room. Simply unframed, canvas wall art will add architectural interest to a living space with its graphically stark presentation. The outer edges of stretch canvas wall art are often painted in a contrasting color that gives it instant definition. You will find large pieces that can stand alone or series canvases that are designed to be hung together to create a focal point on a large expanse of wall. Canvas wall art that is hung to fill a space is oftentimes sufficient on its own; when decorating a contemporary space, less is usually more. Think about painting the wall behind the wall art in a shade that is contrasting to the rest of the room to make the piece stand out as a beautiful focal point. A deep dramatic color that coordinates and contrasts with the colors in the canvas wall art will draw even more attention to it.
Enhance your choice of canvas wall art with freestanding or table sculpture, choosing sculpture that has thematic, color or linear similarities to the painting. A grouping of metal, stone or realistic resin sculpture atop a sleek console or a tall sculpture in a corner is an easy way to link the canvas wall art to other furnishings in the room.
Choose a predominant color in decorative wall art and then repeat it in upholstery, lamps, throw pillows, and table top accessories. Add depth and texture to the space with chunky raised nap fabrics, especially those that are in patterns of mixed and solid colors that will work to bring the palette together.
Unite everything with touches of black which will have a grounding influence on the space. From borders on an area rug, to trim on window shades and treatments, or the crevices in wine bottle wall art, a little black goes a long way and keeps a mix of colors from looking chaotic.
If your room is connected visually to the foyer or entryway, repeat the accent colors of the living space or room in the foyer in order to produce harmony from one space to another. A large piece of canvas wall art in the living space can be echoed with a smaller grouping of similar design in the foyer. Hang a trio of canvases on or try vertical canvas accented with a pair of contemporary candle wall sconces staggered to one side.
Abstract Canvas Wall Art in the Bedroom
Create an outstanding focal point in the bedroom by replacing an ordinary headboard with extraordinary wall sculptures mounted above the bed. Three or four evenly spaced stretch canvas panels will add color, form and a graphic impact. Pick up the colors in the canvas with your choice of comforter and throw pillows in various shapes and textures. Simple night stands on both sides of the bed can be topped with clear glass bubble lamp stand and shades that echo an accent color for easy-to-achieve designer impact.
