Making Sleeptime Peaceful For You And Baby
One of the most difficult parts of being a new mom is getting sleep time to be part of a positive and peaceful process. Often it is stressful and women tend to get very over tired and overwhelmed. You can find a lot of advice on the Internet and from other moms and nurses, but you just have to experiment and find a balance that works for you.
One of the most important things to do is to get a routine established. Some people are very good at sticking to routines and others do not like them, but babies operate best with a routine and it will save you a lot of stress in the long run. It is important to keep the baby calm and relaxed prior to bed time. Part of the routine could be a relaxing bath and cuddle time and this will soothe baby rather than having them over stimulated.
Before baby is even born you should try to get their sleeping area set up nicely for the baby and for you to use easily. A convertible crib is a very popular option these days as they can take baby through from newborn to toddler easily. Many of the crib are also easily folded and transported.
When you are buying your crib try to think long term. Even if you know your baby's sex already if you are thinking of having more children, then you should not opt for a pink or blue crib. A convertible crib natural colored is probably the most useful option and can be easily used for later babies or to sell.
When you have bought the crib you will have to get the bedding collection. You will need about three sets of sheets to ensure that you have one ready to go at all times.
When your baby has passed the six month mark, many moms try to do controlled crying to get them to settle themselves and go to sleep when they wake up. It can be very stressful to hear your baby crying, so some moms do not choose to follow this technique. There are other things that you can do and if you are unsure or feeling like you are not coping then seek the help of a baby nurse.
Controlled crying should only start after six months and before two years of age. It has never been shown to be dangerous for babies, but it should only be done when you are positive that your baby is getting enough attention and cuddles during the day. You can combine controlled crying with an all round positive bed routine.
